Excessive Sweating Treatment
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a condition where the body produces an abnormally high amount of sweat, often affecting areas like the underarms, hands, feet, or face. While there are various treatments available, botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) has become one of the most effective and popular medical interventions for managing hyperhidrosis. The use of Toxin for sweating is FDA-approved and has shown significant success in treating the condition.
How Toxin Works for Hyperhidrosis:
Toxin works by temporarily blocking the signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. When injected into the affected areas, toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that triggers the sweat glands to produce perspiration. As a result, sweating is significantly reduced or eliminated in the treated areas.
Treatment Process:
The procedure is relatively simple and minimally invasive. During the treatment, a trained healthcare provider uses a fine needle to inject small amounts of toxin into the skin, typically in the underarms, palms, soles of the feet, or forehead. The injections are spaced out to cover the entire area, ensuring even treatment. The procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes, and while there may be slight discomfort, it generally does not require anaesthesia.
Effectiveness and Duration:
Toxin for hyperhidrosis is highly effective, with most patients experiencing a significant reduction in sweating within a few days after treatment. Results can last between 4 to 6 months, after which the treatment can be repeated. For patients with severe sweating, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the best results.
